Dr. Sagar Bhattad is India’s first DM super-specialist in Pediatric Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, trained at the prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. During his academic tenure, he was awarded the Silver Medal in MD Pediatrics and the Major Gen Amir Chand Gold Medal for his groundbreaking research on complement deficiency in pediatric lupus.
A pioneer in Immunology-focused Bone Marrow Transplants (BMT) in India, Dr. Bhattad has played a key role in the diagnosis and management of Primary Immune Deficiency Disorders (PIDs). His passion for immune deficiencies has made him a sought-after speaker at national and international forums.
Dr. Bhattad has been instrumental in establishing the Center of Excellence in Pediatric Immunology and Bone Marrow Transplant at Aster CMI Hospital, Bangalore, which is among the few centers in India recognized by the Foundation for Primary Immunodeficiency (FPID), USA. Under his leadership, Aster CMI has conducted one of the highest numbers of immune deficiency transplants in the country.
In 2025, he was honored with The Moopen’s Clinical Excellence Award, the highest clinical recognition within the Aster Group, acknowledging his exceptional contributions to medicine and research.
To further hone his expertise, Dr. Bhattad trained as an observer at The Great North Children’s Hospital, Newcastle, UK—Europe’s largest center for Pediatric Immune Deficiency Transplants—where he gained insight into the latest BMT techniques. This experience continues to shape and enhance outcomes in complex immunological transplants at his center.
Dr. Bhattad’s clinical interests also include Kawasaki disease, and he follows one of the largest pediatric cohorts with this condition in South India.
He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as the Journal of Clinical Immunology, Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology, International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases, Indian Pediatrics, and many more. His work has been presented at several prominent national and international conferences.
Dr. Sagar Bhattad envisions building South India’s largest Immunology center, committed to affordable diagnostic and transplant care for children with immune deficiencies.
